33 helping Harley
The Thirty Three instantly donated £1000 as soon as they read in the Manchester Evening News about the appeal to help Hazel Grove youngster Harley Slack, aged 4. Harley was admitted to the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital with Meningitis B and had to be revived three times after his heart stopped. As the poisonous septicaemia infection spread through his body, surgeon had to amputate all his limbs - his arms below the elbows and his legs below the knees.
Local newspapers started an appeal to raise £100000 to help create a better future for Harley, with false arms and legs.
